Insiders spill the beans on what really goes on behind the scenes.

It’s more than just clever editing that creates all the on-screen drama. From styling to proposals, everything we see is fake! Past and present contestants exclusively tell all.

‘You don’t cook at home’
No wonder some teams struggle finding their way around the kitchen – it’s not theirs! Teams cook in hired or borrowed homes that meet the producers’ strict criteria.“The kitchen must be completely separate from the dining room so guests don’t hear what is going on and vice versa,” explains an insider. Same for the bathroom.

‘You’re watched’
Shockingly, when contestants are cooking, they’re being supervised by chefs. “When Pete and Manu claim they can taste the meat hasn’t rested long enough or contestants have used packet stock, it is because they’re fed this information by the professionals through their ear pieces,” reveals a past contestant.

‘You get given a menu’
Ever wondered why some teams struggle to whip up their meals during the instant restaurant rounds? Well, turns out contestants only find out their theme and menu at 6pm the night before. Producers pluck themes and meals from the three theme ideas and eight menus contestants submit at auditions. “And contestants are strongly encouraged to try unfamiliar techniques,” says a former contestant. This can have devastating effects.“[Last year] Helen and Steve submitted their family favourite moussaka but were told they had to deconstruct it for their instant restaurant,” says a source. “Then they were slammed by the judges for not keeping it true to their family’s traditional format.”

I am not a religious mkr watcher but I have watched a few episodes from each season and this year I have watched a few more than a few. Now I'm not stupid yes pretty much all reality shows have an element of "fake" and it makes sense that they cook in a kitchen that allows privacy for what they are cooking. (The show isn't about their kitchen it's about the food they cook) and as far as the 2 Asian chics now come on babes do you really think people didn't like them because they were Asian or because of the words that came out of their mouths? Come on babes be honest. Actually it was those 2 that kept me watching. And to be honest until I read these comments I wasn't even aware that there was a racial uproar? So was there really a racial issue? Or just another over the top politically incorrect rant? Come on people do you really have nothing better to do? Ps go Dan and Steph.
It is with disgust like most people, that I say to you channel 7, you have taken MKR too far. It has become like a badly acted episode of the jerry springer show. Obviously the show is scripted, people who are eliminated acting surprised when they get into the taxi saying " Oh ? what is this........whats all this about ?" It is very obvious that the asians were placed into the competition for ratings, and are terrible actors ( wherever you got them from you need to get your money back ) but you are actually encouraging hatred for asians. IIt is so obvious that the asians are not gone, and they will re-appear in the finals and probably win it. We have also switched off, as has hundreds of our friends. The show is childish and predictable. Manu and Pete, this is reflecting poorly on you both and your reputations. But I guess when money is involved that's all that matters? What next channel 7 ? I hate to think...possibly 'Chimps on Ice' or " Guess which aliens coming to dinner "
Channel 7 , Pete and Manu, this has been one of my favourite shows since it started, my husband is a chef and loathes your show he is always telling me how its set up, scripted and fake. FINALLY, I see the light with this years show ,and am now convinced of the same. I am so disappointed with how you've turned this show into a hatred for racism. You have shown favouritism to Ashley and Sophia and sadly I am embarrassed to say, I hate them and I blame you channel 7.. I was glad to see them loose last night but after seeing they will now be back on a Sunday night its TIME TO CHANGE CHANNELS AND WATCH SOMETHING ELSE. THANKS FOR RUINING ONE OF MY FAVOURITE SHOWS. SHAME ON YOU CHANNEL 7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been a fan of MKR since the first year and was looking forward to the 2013 series. Alas I've been bitterly disappointed with the path the producers have chosen to go down this year. Sadly MKR has become just another scripted, edited, artificial melodrama and I've stopped watching. There really are no outstanding cooks this year. Has that skill been overlooked in the recruitment process or replaced with OTT personality? Shame, shame, shame MKR producers, you've killed the golden goose.
Well tonight finally did it for me. For weeks I have persisted with listening to the disgusting language coming from the mouths of those two girls, because I enjoyed watching the cooking. Tonight's performance by them was the final straw. I cannot listen to another minute of the rude, disrespectful and downright disgraceful language they use when speaking to and about the other contestants (and even to each other at times). I would be ashamed if my daughter spoke in that manner. MKR, I am switching off, as are many, many of my friends.
It's the first time i've watched this program because i live in south east asia but i am here on vacation to see my family,, they love the show but i'm horrified by the manners and the language and lack of education by the two girls, S & A, it's sad to see this type of television because there are some great cooks and the standard in cooking is very high but the writers of this program should focus more on the cooking and less on the personalities,, i have been wondering why so much air time is given to the two Asian girls, their food is the type of food i buy most days at roadside stalls called street food, each dish sells for 50 cents, everyone can cook their kind of dishes and the judges praise their cooking, i don't know why so much emphasis is given to them when there are other people who cook much better but say much less, but there must be another reason behind the scenes,, they will win the competition, the reason i wonder is WHY ?
Hey Channel 7 and MKR, are you guys not reading or listening to all the comments this year about the 2 'babes' We are not happy with their attitude and obvious favouritism to them, it has made the whole show about 'them'. IF they win or even get to the final I know of so many of us will TURN OFF and for good. You really have made this series laughable and not believable, it looks so set up to have these two twits the stars, to many of us they are not watchable, its not fair to the real stars the cooks that play fair, its taken it away from them and good viewing. IF THESE TWO WIN, I will turn off any show the are on, boycott them and MKR. Please listen to the comments made here and on facebook. THEY ARE RIGHT.
this is the first time that I have ever had to voice an opinion and write something nasty but those two very obnoxious girls have made my blood boil what an ill mannered pair they are they need to go to finishing school to learn some manners and how to treat fellow contestants with more respect yes it is a competition but do it I style this will be the last time that we will be watching this show if those two win get ride of them SOON
come on MKR don't try telling the public that you haven't paid these foul mouthed Asian women extra to put on the BS for the publicity of the show. How could a great show that i haven't missed one series let these two women ( i couldn't bring myself to say ladies) speak about the other contestants in the way they do? Please if you want people to follow your show in the future pick your contestants with a little bit of class they are disgusting and i think that they should be reprimanded for their comments, if that's publicity you've lost heaps of respect from me and i'm sure a lot of other viewers.
The sad fact is that the two Asian chicks on MKR are the most abnoxious creatures I've encountered. That's the end of Mkr for us . We turned it off for good. It's farcical and I'm sure designed to bolster the ratings. Not with us it hasn't .

I really do think the Spice Girls were very inmature and silly young ladies, but they were not nasty and vicious like those 2 Cabramatta girls. Fancy them saying after they did not win at the Sydney markets that they would have done a better job of making the Vietnamese Pork Rolls, that the brother and sister team won in that challenge. Sophia and Ashlee must have seen green that day, with smoke coming out of their ears. SUFFER. Obviously you both think you can do better, but the public that came for lunch at the market didn't think so. This is a very immature thing to do. Of course he is only thinking with his old fella instead of his brain as he sure doesn't give a damn about his kids. Michelle does not have any so she don't care. Both should go off quietly together as they are both pathetic.Pip, NSw10 CommentsPost commentView comments Charlotte Dawson: I'm 47, he's 23 - so what?Charlotte Dawson: I'm 47, he's 23 - so what? You go girl, live while you can, but remember that when you are 71 your beautiful boy will be just 47......Bobbie, Sydney6 CommentsPost commentView comments
