Living your best life

"It's only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up that we will begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it (were) the only one we had."
Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

The present moment

Why does it take the death of a loved one to make us start telling people how we feel about them? Why does it take being diagnosed with a serious illness for us to realise life is too short to waste spending our days doing something we don't even like, let alone love? Why do we put things off for "one day" — calling that friend, going on that holiday, pursuing that dream? Why do we save the good cutlery for good company or store away that special dress for a special occasion? What greater special occasion is there than today — you are alive!

Your life

Picture yourself on the last day of your life. Someone is asking you, "Did you love and enjoy your life? What did you do with your time here? Did you do everything you wanted to do? Were you happy?" How do you reply?

You think back to all you have experienced and to the kind of person you were. You remember the way you treated yourself, the way you treated others and the way you allowed others to treat you. You see clearly where you let yourself fly and be your best and where you held yourself back or let yourself or others down. You smile at the times you followed your heart and acknowledge the moments when you know you didn't.

What would you do differently?

From this perspective, what would you do differently? Is there some part of you that would like to express itself more powerfully/creatively/authentically? Are there any changes that are crying out to be made or fears to be overcome?

Love and laugh

During their last moments alive, people often realise what really matters: love yourself and be true to yourself. Love others. Love your life and live it to the full. Appreciate every day. Laugh more. Stress less.

Make a promise

When we allow ourselves to look back on our life, before we have completed it, we get to see how we truly want to live while we still have time to do something about it. Make a promise to your "last day here" self that you will do all you can to live your best life. If you're still alive, you still have time.
