It has turned me from a girl into a woman and given me the strength to accept myself and shine.
She was cruelly nicknamed “Garbage Disposal” in high school, but Victoria Christensen has been given a confidence boost after being crowned Mrs Utah Plus America 2013.

The 23-year-old, who weighs 140kg, says she has long suffered taunts about her weight and, after years of teasing, decided she was going to ignore her critics and be happy, Radar Online reported.

“At school, people commonly called me ‘fat’ and ‘Fatty’. The worst was ‘Garbage Disposal’ because people thought I ate too much," she reveals.

“But I don’t remember anything more than that because I’ve tried to let them go and remove any negative forces in my life."

Victoria entered herself in the Miss Plus America pageant after seeing an interview with last year’s winner on Facebook.

And, despite not winning the national title, she was given a confidence boost by being crowned Mrs Utah American Beauties Plus 2013.

“I used to watch the Miss America pageant as a child and wish I could be one of those girls," Victoria said.

"I had decided that I was never going to be skinny enough or pretty enough to do that so, year after year, I would watch them and continue to wish."

When she saw the Miss America Plus interview, Victoria says, “My first thought was, 'Wait a minute: plus?' I realised I had a chance to be one of the girls I thought I would never be skinny enough or pretty enough to be."

Victoria says she has been filled with confidence thanks to the competition.

“It has turned me from a girl into a woman and given me the strength to accept myself and shine,” she says.

Definitely pretty enough, just obese and unhealthy ,should lose the weight for her body's sake.
This article was not about if it is healthy to be obese or anorexic. The article was about a girl who was tormented her whole life because of the way she looked and weighed. It took courage for her to enter such a competition especially since she knew she would be judged by her peers and it shows that she overcame the horrible things that were said to her. She is saying this is me and you will no longer make me feel bad about myself.
This is all too much.. I am not coping with this!!!!
Seriously come on! Ok let’s have a beauty pageant for smokers or heroin addicts. She is 140kgs that is not beauty that is unhealthy. You can even see her fat apron under her dress. Please this is so silly
You've got to be kidding me right?!? How can anyone believe being 140kgs is healthy. Being overweight and more so obese can put you at an increased risk for up to thirty medical conditions. They include gallbladder disease, heart disease, hypertension (high blood pressure), dyslipidemia (high cholesterol), osteoarthritis, type 2 diabetes, stroke, sleep apnea, Arthritis, including osteoarthritis, cardiovascular disease and rheumatoid arthritis, is especially common among the overweight and obese. Obesity has also been dubbed as a leading cause of heart attacks. Shall I go on?!? Being obese is a lifestyle choice. Let's all get a bit more realistic here. I think more to the point people should be seeking mental help as to why they are comfort eating. This is a mental disease as much as anorexia. I think ALL beauty pageants are ridiculous. Focus on being healthy and stop trying to live up to other peoples expectations.
"I'm Confused" and "Missing the Point" certainly are missing the message... Just because someone is classified as "obese" doesn't put them at a higher health risk for any health issues over someone who is not classified as "obese". Isn't there a little judgment in your statements??? The medical "height-weight chart" was created by man... The medical definition of "obese" comes from society and the Doctors who "practice" medicine... Please don't be so ignorant to think an overweight person is high risk for health problems more than a person who is "underweight". Plus Size Pageantry and Plus Size Fashion is blowing up in the industry right now... Have you asked yourself why??? Is it because more than 70% of all women are a size 12 or GREATER...??? It is not easy to stand up and be an example of a confident "full-figured" woman in an environment where so much judgment and condemnation is prevelant... I challenge you to be an example in society... Just for one day...
Kudos to Tori who is much more than a number on a scale! She has stepped out to show little girls that beauty is much more than stilettos and a bikini rocking a 110 pound body. I am also part of the plus pageant world and it is NOT about promoting obesity or an unhealthy lifestyle. We ALL have our personal stories as to why we weigh what we do. And really the number is none of ANYONE'S business. Would you ask a skinny beauty queen what she weighed? As a teen I was a healthy and athletic 5 ft 9 size 14 and got called Walrus Wally which led me to a 15 year eating disorder that caused my body to be so screwed up weight has been a struggle ever since conquering it. Plus starts in the modeling world at size 8 and in our pageant a size 14 MOST have NO health issues and could live much longer than the people who post negative comments and are thin. Do not judge a book by it's cover and DO NOT say negative things about my pageant sister and friend!
When will obese people wake up and realise that it's not about being skinny or conforming, beautiful or ugly, it's about health. There is nothing healthy about obesity and it shouldn't be glorified, just as neither should striving to be a size 0. If they really want to be obese that's fine but pay for your own medical expenses without relying on Medicare to treat all the health problems that come with being obese. Pay for 2 seats on planes instead of one so I can have my seat which I paid for to myself without having to share it with you. If it's really a lifestyle choice, that's fine, but don't expect the rest of us to fund it and to conform to your unhealthy lifestyle.
I have always been on the chubby side. I have always been happy. Iam who I am and to hell with anyone who thinks I am les of a person than a girl who is happy with her bones sticking out.
if she had lost it would have been it was because she is big, if she wins they all come out and be critical a case of dammed is she did or dammed if she didnt
