We've lived in 24 homes and never paid rent!
Bart and Nele Verboven have lived in some of Sydney’s ritziest suburbs over the past six years.

They have lived in two-bedroom units and multi-million dollar mansions, they’ve fed dozens of cats and walked scores of dogs and, in between moving 24 times, they have found time to get married, become Australian citizens and start a family of their own.

The Verbovens were Belgian backpackers from Antwerp when they arrived in Australia six years ago in search of adventure. Now, this young couple are house-sitters extraordinaire. With their two sons, six-month-old Anton and three-year-old Lode, they hop from home to home, moving sometimes up to four times a month to keep a roof over their heads.

Nele and Bart’s first foray into house-sitting happened by chance, when a woman they were renting a room from asked them to look after her cat while she went travelling overseas. “When we started out, we only had a suitcase each and our laptop to move,” says Nele, 35. “It was only when we started having children that it was a bit more tricky. There are some things you need – a cot, pram, play gym, some toys and clothes.

“It is hard for Lode,” she admits. “He can’t have a personalised room of his own, or friends round to play. He gets attached to pets at the houses we sit, and hates to say goodbye when we leave. But he does love exploring the new places we move to.”

OMG, i cant get over these comments!! They made the choice to become house-sitters - its a free country and they can do it if they want, there is obviously a demand in the market for house-sitters!! I for one use house-sitters when I go away on holidays - my animals are important to me and I expect whoever I employ to keep my home and pets safe until my return. ITS A JOB they are doing. Get it though your thick heads!!! If you can't get up and find a job that you enjoy than thats not their fault.......... jealous much!!??
Did you people even read this story????? They are full time HOUSE SITTERS meaning they get paid to house sit for people which IS THEIR JOB! hence why they are constantly moving, they basicly just move from job to job and live at their place of employment for the duration of that job and then move on to the next. I agree that it isn't a very good life for children but maybe you people should actually pay attention to what your reading before throwing around comments.
How could you up and move little children constantly? Children need stability and a home not to live out of a suitcase.
so what kind of visa did they get to first become permanent residents? no work obviously, because i doubt they can hold onto a job when moving around so much?
I agree with sooverit! Nice to know I worked like a dog today as a single parent struggling to keep a roof over my 2 kids heads but do I (& others like me) get much help? Lets look after Aussie families first!
Its one thing to live rent free, but what do they do for cash money? How do they feed those two kids? I bet you a kazillion dollars, they get money from the tax paying citizens of this country! Living off benefits. That's why they had those kids, so they can stay here, rent free, living on the dol! Seriously, I'm over working for others to get benefits.Together my hubby and I work over 95hrs per wk, and let me tell you, there is no way in hell we can afford a baby without assistance from the govt! We don't own a house. We have one car and that's all we own in this country. And that's still being paid off too. How about looking after our own people first? What does he do? Got a job of any description? We have +$350 going to tax per wk so these people can sit on their a** and raise children! They don't pay tax's, instead, just take with empty greedy hands, smiling like cheshire cats all the way to the bank and back!
do these people work at all .. how could they work with all the moving .. what about the poor kids not being able to have friends over ..so much for self asorbed parents only worried about themselves...
