Millions of Australians are disabled themselves or care for someone with a profound disability. Read the shocking stories of those left to soldier on in silence.
The McPhee family, Grafton, NSW
“We still can’t get an assessment”
“My son Jace is a delightful 4 year old boy, who last year was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.
Since his diagnosis we, along with every other family in our situation, have struggled to access services.
We have been a client of DADHAC for over a year and have yet to see anyone to have an assessment completed.
I am grateful to the government for some autism support money to try and help get the services so badly needed for children on the autism spectrum, but what will happen to them after they turn seven when the funding finishes?
Does the government think that this will just magically fix these children?"
