Ricki-Lee: The secret behind my 30 kilo weight loss
Ricki-Lee's stunning transformation.
"I’ve experienced criticism about my body, and for being a size 14 woman in the spotlight," she said. "That just feels like another symptom of how unhealthy body perception can be."

The Raining Diamonds singer looks fantastic, thanks to a year-long health and fitness campaign that has seen her slim down from a curvaceous size 14 to a very sexy size 8.

Chatting to Australia’s Next Top Model winner Alice Burdeu, Ricki-Lee Coulter cut a glamorous figure on Melbourne Cup day last week as she soaked up the atmosphere in the exclusive Emirates tent at Flemington racecourse. Dressed in a sparkling cocktail frock and arm in arm with partner Richard Harrison, the 25-year-old singer looked so comfortable hobnobbing with the model that some people mistook her for another catwalk queen.

“You’re just saying that!” she says with a laugh when Woman’s Day makes the same mistake. “But thanks!” Onlookers couldn’t believe it was the same girl who’d talked openly about being a “proud size 14” just a year before. Everyone wanted to know exactly how she’d managed to shed so much weight and reshape her body. Surely it couldn’t all be down to the efforts of her personal trainer boyfriend? “We don’t actually train together,” says Ricki-Lee, whose latest single Raining Diamonds is climbing the charts. “I’ve been doing a lot of dancing. I set myself a little challenge – I wanted to be fitter, performance-wise. I’ve been doing a lot of dance rehearsals with a choreographer for the last four or five months.

“We rehearse every day for music video stuff and all my live performances – it’s really fun.”Sounds a bit like she’s enjoying her very own Zumba lesson each day! “Yeah!” she says, laughing. “I get to perform it too, which is great. It’s all heaps of fun.” When Woman’s Day spoke to Ricki-Lee in January last year, the then-voluptuous singer was happy to stand as a poster girl for “size 14 women everywhere”. She even agreed to do a photoshoot for us in Bali, with the resulting images free of computer touch-ups. “It’s important for the women of Australia to see a real woman in the pages of a magazine,” Ricki-Lee said at the time. “This is what I really look like. I’m proud to be out there promoting size 14 beauty. It’s the average size of most women, and it’s important for people to see that and know that’s who I am too.”

Looking at Ricki-Lee now, you’d never recognise the curvaceous teen who shot to fame as a finalist on the second series of Australian Idol in 2004. At the time, people couldn’t help but hold her aloft as a role model for “normal” girls. However, as Ricki-Lee admits, the feedback wasn’t always positive. “I’ve experienced criticism about my body, and for being a size 14 woman in the spotlight,” she said. “That just feels like another symptom of how unhealthy body perception can be.” Ricki-Lee insisted she was happy with her size and would shun weight-loss endorsements. “I come from a family of tall, curvy women,” she said. “I developed in my body and my shape far earlier, so from a young age I accepted it. I embraced it and saw it as an advantage.”

she looks AMAZING as a size 8, and people saying she would look better in a bigger size are lying to themselves. No one looks good when they are fat. It's not healthy to be a size 14 anyway. Her lifestyle is obviously better and she looks so much more beautiful. All the people saying bigger is better and real men like curves are just trying to make excuses for their lazy lifestyles and being fatasses.
At least she can make film clips now that aren't all black backgrounds and close up face shots
i agreed with some of the commentors. She's not a natural sz8. She'd probably looks a lot better being a sz10 or sz12. She actually doesn't look as good as she was in sz14.
Anyone heard of the saying "if you have nothing nice to say, then don't say anything at all". Only people that are jealous say negative things about others, grow up and take a look in the mirror before judging anyone, no-one is prefect. Good luck to all those small minded people who have nothing nice to say, you must live in a very sad little world.
Perhaps on top but definately NOT on her lower half! Her hips and thighs are at least a Size 12. I'm sick and tired of celebrities being portrayed in the media as a size they CLEARLY are not. Kudos to her for losing the weight though. Ricki Lee is not "curvy" she's pear-shaped which explains why in most of her pics she hangs her arms by her side in an attempt to disguise that fact. And for anyone wondering if this is sour grapes, it's not. I'm 55kg and a genuine SIze 8!
looking at her puts me off loosing weight, not that she doesnt look great but i always thought she had such an amazingly pretty face and now its gone, she just blends into the croud now
I loved Ricki Lee Coulter when she was on Asustralia got Talent. I admired her being size 14 I still admire her size 8 You go girl. Aslong as you are happy in your skin that is all that matters. I am a 62 year woman who fights on a daily basis to keep my weight down to 70 kgs I am 159 cm and should be 65 at my highest point I would be over the moon if I ever get there I am still trying I just have to exercise more Don't take any notice of the negative comments you have it all the looks the voice and now the body, along with thepersonality which you always had 14 or size 8 no matter what we love you good luck sweetie you looked absolutley beautiful at Melbourne Cup stunning. Keep happy
Couldn't we just take her words literally instead of speculating? It is possible that she has been training with her choreographer a lot for 5 months and has lost weight in the process. Dancing burns an incredible amount of calories. To me that falls more under the category of enjoying life and working hard. I think sometimes people read too far into things - positively or negatively. Some of the things people have said could be quite true.. but who knows? If you think that way then surely she deserves the benefit of the doubt? It's basic respect for another human being, whom none of us know.
I think she looks fantastic! And size 8 actually isn't that small, I'm a size 8 even after having 2 kids but I work for it and to be honest I am very proud to look good, and I bet she does too, she has said in the past she is happy being a size 14 well I bet she is just as happy at size 8 and if in the future she gains a little bit well I'm sure she will be fine with that. There is nothing wrong with loosing weight as long as you go about it in the right way and you eat well
hey! some of these comments are really unnecessary...she looked great at a size 14 and she looks equally good as a size 8. i'm sure she feels fantastic and super proud. i personally think she would look her best at a 12 but everybody is a different shape and height and whatnot!! and regarding weight loss, i'm in the process of doing so - i was originally a size 10, over a couple of years medication put me up to a size 18 and now i've lost a total 22kg so far and i'm a size14. i plan on being a 12. it's an amazing journey and i am finally starting to accept my body. there are many reasons for weight loss, physical and psychological, maybe one day the people who are being downright nasty in these comments will get to experience the feeling of being a healthier person and the reasons associated with it aren't always superficial

I really do think the Spice Girls were very inmature and silly young ladies, but they were not nasty and vicious like those 2 Cabramatta girls. Fancy them saying after they did not win at the Sydney markets that they would have done a better job of making the Vietnamese Pork Rolls, that the brother and sister team won in that challenge. Sophia and Ashlee must have seen green that day, with smoke coming out of their ears. SUFFER. Obviously you both think you can do better, but the public that came for lunch at the market didn't think so. If the dress was sleeveless with a lower neckline and a bottom hem that finished above the knee, it may have looked a little better.
