Looking for a great summer workout? Here's how the stars keep their famous figures ready for the red carpet.
PILATES
Who does it?
Paris Hilton and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos keep their bodies sleek and toned with regular one-hour Pilates sessions.
The workout
Pilates combines stretching and core strengthening exercises on mats or special machines.
Body results
Longer, leaner limbs and a toned stomach area.
Why it works?
Pilates is a great all-round workout. It incorporates strength training, stretching, aerobic elements and kilojoule burning all at the same time.
Kilojoules burned
1046kJ per hour (approx)
RESISTENCE TRAINING
Who does it?
Bootilicious Beyonce Knowles and Brit star Kate Beckinsale are devotees of resistance training, targeting different muscle groups during hour-long sessions at least three days a week.
The workout
Repetitive exercises or poses using the body's weight as resistance, or using light weights or elastic bands.
Body results
Resistance training builds up lean (not bulky) muscle tone.
Why it works?
This type of training increases muscle strength and endurance and helps blast kilojoules. The more lean muscle mass you have, the more kilojoules you burn during daily activities.
Kilojoules burned
2093kJ per hour.
YOGA
Who does it?
Heather Graham, Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna are all fans of regular yoga sessions.
The workout
This mind/body practice uses a variety of poses that require stretching, movement and balance. It can be done every day.
Body results
Yoga improves muscle tone, flexibility and strength.
Why it works
Different poses target different areas, leading to a full-body workout that never over-develops any one muscle group.
Kilojoules burned
1172kJ per hour (some yoga styles, such as Bikram, are more vigorous and will burn more)
RUNNING
Who does it?
Hilary Swank, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston and Janet Jackson are all into good old-fashioned jogging. "I love to run and feel my lungs burn!" says Swank.
The workout
Running requires little equipment, just a good pair of shoes and a lot of energy. Most people have to ease themselves into this strenuous workout, starting at a slow to moderate pace three to five times a week for 30 to 45 minutes.
Body results
Running provides fast fat burning and killer legs.
Why it works
It builds great aerobic fitness and endurance while making you leaner and lighter.
Kilojoules burned
2345kJ per hour
