Dr John Tickell's detox diet
Celebrity Overhaul
Friday, October 21, 2005
"There are, basically, two ways to detox your body. On the one hand, some people favour virtual 'starvation' - merely adding some herbal teas and pure juices.
"I don't favour this approach, but rather, I believe the best way is to go right back to basics for three days and take in only simple fruits and vegetables during this period (organic, if you wish). After the third day, I then reintroduce simple and wholesome foods. This was the plan we followed with the stars on Nine Network's Celebrity Overhaul's second series, at the Chiva-Som International Health Resort in Thailand. Try it yourself!"

1.4g fat
1 tsp ground black pepper
2cm fresh galangal
3 shallots
1 tsp brown miso paste
1L vegetable stock
200g pumpkin
1 medium sponge gourd
1 cup fresh baby corn, cooked
100g straw mushrooms
1 tsp light soy sauce
1/2 cup Thai sweet basil leaves
1. Pound the pepper, galangal, shallots and miso paste together in a mortar, mix to a paste. Alternatively, place all these in a blender. The mixture need not be smooth. Place the spice mix in a saucepan with vegetable stock.
2. Cut pumpkin and gourd into cubes. Cut baby corn to the same size. Roughly chop mushrooms and add to the pot with pumpkin and corn; cook until pumpkin is tender. Add the sponge gourd and continue to simmer until just done. Adjust seasoning with the soy sauce.
3. Remove from the heat and add basil leaves to serve.
