Natasha's raw deal
Natarsha Belling tells Josephine Agostino she can’t wait to get messy in the kitchen with her sons on Mother’s Day.

As a wife and mother of two, Ten News presenter Natarsha Belling is happy to admit her best dinner parties are cooked by someone else. But when it comes to making healthy and humble meals for her boys – husband Glen and sons Harrison, 3, and Hugo, 18 months, she’s not afraid to get her hands dirty, or the entire kitchen for that matter.

My most memorable Mother's Day meals is…raw eggs on bread cooked by my son Harrison because he wasn't allowed to use the oven but wanted to make me something special.

I love it when my boys make me...laugh.

The one thing that can always put a smile on my face on Mother's Day is…the chaos caused by the boys (my husband included!) trying to make my day very special.

My favourite food memory from childhood is…homemade scones and sponge cakes from my grandmother, Vera. I’ve inherited the sweet tooth in the family, and I have all her recipes.

My favourite food ritual is…pizza and family on Friday nights. I buy the dough, make the sauce from scratch using an Italian recipe and make toppings and the deal is dad has to clean up. I love a marinara with seafood, and Goat’s cheese with baby spinach, pine nut and roasted pumpkin. Everyone gets their own little pizza. The boys enjoy making their own, and Harrison, my three year old is a big Masterchef fan so he judges what I serve up. He says, “I think you could do with more olives!” He’ll be a food critic.

The food I hide behind my news desk is…Tim Tams. While I was pregnant with Hugo, it was the only thing that would take my morning sickness away while I read the news, so I’ve kept that tradition.

We make the biggest mess when….we cook or have lots of fun, so that’s every day!

In the fridge I always have…strawberries, wholemeal bread, grapes and milk. And some home made dark chocolate for mummy when the boys go to bed. I have a great store near my home which I visit often!

My sons love…cuddles.

I spoil my husband with…delicious dinners like my chicken linguine.

The quick mid week meal I often turn to is…chicken schnitzels with vegetables. I’ll have it three nights in a row, in a burger, then in pasta.

At my last dinner party I served…takeaway Thai, for a catch up with some friends and our babies. It was sensational. I left it in the containers too! We just appreciated having a hot meal.

Catering my children’s birthday parties are…stressful but very rewarding. It helps having a wonderful mother who can make the sensational birthday cake. Las t year she made a chocolate Roary one from scratch for Harrison and lion one for Hugo’s first birthday.

I use the freezer most for…organising meals. Being a busy mum, I plan and freeze a lot with things like a freshly made tomato sauce, chicken schnitzel and sausages, but I always have fresh fruit and veggies to add to it.

The most exotic food I’ve tasted is…kangaroo and crocodile at Uluru watching the sunset. It was beautiful but I was very confused watching the outback then eating kangaroo.

If I could be any celebrity chef it would be…Jamie Oliver. His recipes seem extraordinarily easy and family friendly. He’s got a great passion for food.

When I need energy on the run I reach for…almonds and dried fruit.

The food I’ll never eat again is…kangaroo, duck and crocodile.

The one thing I couldn’t live without is…my three boys.
