Question:I often come across this ingredient in recipes can you tell me what fromage frais is and where I can buy it, please?
Margaret Fairburn
Answer:
Fromage frais is a fresh, soft curd cheese that is low in fat. It first became available from supermarkets and specialty delicatessens around 15 years ago. Fresh cheeses are not cured which means they do not keep for long. It has a slightly tangy taste. Also known as quark or quarg. Quark is used to make fromage frais for Petite Miam and Frûche. Frûche is a fromage frais-based product.
