Christmas BBQ on a budget: Barbecued octopus and calamari

Barbecued octopus and calamari

This year my team is bringing you lots of different low-cost ways to do your Christmas entertaining in style. These delicious ideas are for your barbecue — make the most of our beautiful weather and entertain in casual comfort with family and friends.

INGREDIENTS

500g calamari rings
250g baby octopus, cleaned
¼ cup olive oil
¼ cup soy sauce
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 tablespoon sweet chilli sauce
3 green onions, sliced
2 small red chillies, chopped
Juice 1 lemon or lime
Baby rocket, to serve
METHOD

  1. Combine calamari and octopus in a bowl. Pour combined oil, sauces, onion, chilli, juice and garlic over and toss well.
  2. Allow to marinate for at least 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Preheat a barbecue plate on high. Cook calamari and octopus for 5-10 minutes, until tender. Toss with rocket and serve.


Top tips
  • Try this marinade with fish of choice or prawns.
  • The longer you marinate the octopus the better it is.
