Already a crowd favourite, Karise Eden is proving dreams really can come true on The Voice.

Laughing and relaxed as a make-up artist fusses over her in preparation for a photo shoot, it’s hard to believe Karise Eden was homeless just a few short years ago. “When they did my make-up for The Voice, I cried… it made me feel like I am one of those girls who are pretty!” she says. “I say, I’m 19, but I’ve crammed a lot of life in me.”

By her own admission, Karise has had her fair share of ups and downs. “When I was younger, I had a lot of violent episodes. I dropped out of school in year seven, and when I was 12 or 13 I got diagnosed with agoraphobia. I didn’t go outside the house for years. “I would just sit in my room and listen to Bon Jovi, Guns N’ Roses and Led Zeppelin,” she recalls. “It was a pretty sad existence, but I guess if I didn’t have that, I wouldn’t have the obsession with music I do today.” A chance meeting with some old family friends, Marilyn and Frank, changed Karise’s life.

When she bumped into the couple at a music festival, they exchanged numbers, and Karise soon began working in their local business – a music shop. “I asked Uncle Frank to teach me to play guitar. He said, ‘It’s a big commitment, it’s a life commitment,’” Karise remembers. “I promised him I would play it forever, and that is something that has really saved me and pulled me through.

“Once I started playing, I became fixated on learning. I remember all the other kids sneaking out to go underage drinking, and I would say, ‘No, I need to learn this song.’” All that hard work has clearly paid off. Friends Lee, 41, and her daughter Jo, 15, say they will never forget the first time they heard Karise sing. “I was speechless. It kind of gave me goose bumps,” Jo says. “There’s so much emotion and passion in her voice. It’s amazing.” Fast forward four years and Karise, who now lives with Lee and Jo, is on the brink of cracking the big time.

Blade, it's people like Karise that can inspire hope for people who need it to make a change in their lives. Whilst it may not be big to you, Karise may the the inspiration to that kid who can't see a better life for themselves.
when I heard this girl sing I thought "Wow" Janice Joplin ,Amy Winehouse and Adele all in one. Hope she doesn't fall off the radar like so many of these talent show contestants she has a fabulous talent and I want to hear more of it.I like her humility it makes her so refreshing and real.

wow i met this young lady at the v8 races last year and she told me a little about herself and she told me she loved to sing i got the shock of my life when she came out and sung like she did blew me away i actully cried tears of joy for this young lady i hope and wish for great things to come her way as she deserves the nothing less i would love for her to win this she has a beautiful soul i think they found the voice the very first night of auditions well done love so proud of you
She's primal and beautiful.
Im sorry if I seem insensitive and Im happy for Karise, But is this really newsworthy? there are allot of underprivileged people out there that have talents and never get to shine at all. and I also think that Karise's hard times are not only by chance but part by her own doing. Well done Karise but I think that this story would not be newsworthy if we could bring to light how many people have overcome hard times.......without instant fame. thanks Blade Butler
This girl is an amazing talent, being her situation years ago there were so many other wrong directions she could have went in. I am so happy she chose to believe in herself and not get caught up in all the crap that homeless kids etc can often leed to. It just goes to show if you really want something if you really want to make your life better determination will pay off..
Tending to kitchen duties at home when Karise sang - WOW ! ! It froze me to the spot and TRULY had the hair on skin raised and tingled .... WHAT A VOICE ... hope this young lady gains the future she so deserves .. Please someone out there protect and direct this young lady...
this young lady is outstanding and with the right management is an international star what a voice. i really dont think she should continue with the show its a waste of time. some recording company should sign her up straight away. i enjoy all types of music but when this young lady started singing i reacted before the judges what a performance she stands alone. regards mark

I really do think the Spice Girls were very inmature and silly young ladies, but they were not nasty and vicious like those 2 Cabramatta girls. Fancy them saying after they did not win at the Sydney markets that they would have done a better job of making the Vietnamese Pork Rolls, that the brother and sister team won in that challenge. Sophia and Ashlee must have seen green that day, with smoke coming out of their ears. SUFFER. Obviously you both think you can do better, but the public that came for lunch at the market didn't think so. You live and learn.anniepoo, Melbourne10 CommentsPost commentView comments Who wore it better Kim or Robin Williams?Who wore it better Kim K or Robin Williams?Kim's dress is disgusting, WAY too much floral print. If the dress was sleeveless with a lower neckline and a bottom hem that finished above the knee, it may have looked a little better. It looks like she threw grandma's curtains over her and walked out the door!!Chantelle, Sydney10 CommentsPost commentView comments Michelle Bridges stole my husbandMichelle Bridges stole my husbandWho cares whether Michelle is 43 or 50 years old. This is a very immature thing to do. Of course he is only thinking with his old fella instead of his brain as he sure doesn't give a damn about his kids. Michelle does not have any so she don't care. Both should go off quietly together as they are both pathetic.Pip, NSw10 CommentsPost commentView comments Mahalia Barnes transformed: I'm half my size!Mahalia Barnes transformed: I'm half my size!I agree 100%. Well done Mahalia, you look wonderful and are an inspiration to your daughter & lots of other women. But how ridiculous to suggest she is a size 8-10, I weigh 68 Kilos and being10cm taller I'm pretty confident I'm slimmer through the torso - but no way can I fit into an 8, a 10 maybe if its not too fitted.Chaz, Adelaide5 CommentsPost commentView comments
