Woman's Day remembers Belinda Emmett

Former editor, Alana House, recalls one of the most heartbreaking local stories of the noughties...
The commemorative issue when actor and singer Belinda Emmett died evoked a huge response in our readers. Readers' hearts went out to Belinda and her husband Rove McManus.
At the magazine we had an inkling that she was near the end for quite a while but no one wanted to say it because we all hoped she'd get better and the readers were feeling the same way. Even though she was there supporting Rove right up until her death and was still making music it was obvious to the journalists sent to cover those stories that she was gravely ill.
She was such a lovely down-to-earth girl and Rove and Belinda's story was an incredibly romantic love story. She was so brave and strong until the end.
And when she died it was quite hard for all of us at the magazine because we felt so close to her story as did so many Australians.
