Feeling peckish? Step back in time and see if a retro recipe takes your fancy...

Sweet and sour? No franks!

With the way grocery bills are mounting, it's unlikely our Family Budget Meals For Under $2 would live up to its name nowadays.

More importantly, though, we do wonder how keen you would be to sample tasty offerings like the "Sweet and Sour Frankfurts with Boiled Rice" from our '70s archive...

"Sweet and sour frankfurts served with rice is a great way to make franks that look and taste special," the blurb reads.

The directions continue:

"Slice frankfurts into diagonal slices. Mix with soy sauce to stand for 15 minutes. In a large pan, heat oil and sauté frankfurts, add pineapple with juice in can, celery, green pepper and relish.

"Bring to the boil and simmer 3-4 minutes. Blend cornflour with a little cold water and stir into the mixture and cook, stirring until clear and thickened.

"Serve on hot rice. Serves 4-6."

They forgot to say, "Enjoy!"
