Former Home And Away star Dieter Brummer begged to be killed off so he could escape Melissa George. He tells PHIL KOCH why he hasn’t spoken to the actress in 17 years…

Dieter Brummer is still rolling around laughing after the latest rant from Melissa George, who became famous playing his lover on Home And Away. He hasn’t spoken to Melissa since he asked producers to kill off his character, Shane Parrish, 17 years ago to escape the tension and diva-like demands she made even when she was starting out.

“I think they were unnecessary and a bit ridiculous – but then that’s Mel,” Dieter says in the wake of Melissa’s recent outburst. “We may have been love interests on the show but the chemistry was far from real!” Melissa threw a tantrum and “threatened to walk off set” on The Morning Show when her Home And Away character, Angel Parrish, was mentioned last week. The US-based actress further isolated herself from her Aussie fans by lashing out after the incident.

“I don’t need credibility from my country anymore; I just need them all to be quiet. If they have nothing intelligent to say, please don’t speak to me anymore,” Melissa told Melbourne’s Herald Sun. “I’d rather be having a croissant and a little espresso in Paris or walking my French bulldog in New York City,” snapped the actress, who is dating French millionaire Jean-David Blanc.

Dieter jokes he’d probably also rather be “walking his French bulldog and enjoying a croissant” but is happy to settle for a takeaway coffee and a cuddle with Jelly, his 10-year-old fox terrier. “Mel was incredibly ambitious right from the outset,” explains Dieter, who has made a comeback in Underbelly and still works as a high-rise abseiler in between acting gigs. “I think she wanted to be the next Kylie Minogue. She was a big fan and she aspired to be a big star just like Kylie. I don’t think she had much time for the cast of Home And Away.”

I met Melissa George as a friend of the daughter of one of my mothers friends when she was 16, before she was on Home and Away or anything else. She liked roller skating, had terrible, ratty, yellow dyed hair with about two inches of regrowth and a Kylie Minogue mood ring...Much like many other 16 year olds at the time in Perth. Perhaps she needs to remember where she came from...or perhaps we need to forget and just stop watching the stuff that she's in.
It appears she has forgotten where she has come from. She once herself was nothing and now she has made something of herself she thinks she's better then everyone else... Melissa needs to remember that she is no better then anyone else, after all we all end up dead! Glad we have some pride and joy actors that don't have massive heads just because they have talents and abilities that are quite entertaining Hugh Jackman Kylie Minogue

to bugzme - only Americans can win the Pulitzer, so you won't get too many expats winning them. Not that we really need be too interested in American awards, it's not as if that place is the centre of the universe. However, our own winner, Geraldine Brooks (who became a naturalised American) is constantly asked about her earlier work and her times growing up in Australia, particularly her time as a student at a Catholic school. And guess what? She responds graciously. Perhaps she could sit down with Melissa George and give her a few pointers, particularly the one about meeting the same people on your way down that you did on your way up.
A friend who was a writer on The Henderson Kids, where Kylie got her first real start, said that as a little kid Kylie was polite and respectful to everyone around her. I've heard other people say similar things about Kylie all throughout her career, even when she was being lampooned and put down mercilessly. At best, Melissa George has only ever shown herself to be a b-grade talent. She's hit the peak of her career, she's been lucky. Ask anybody in New York, LA, London or Paris about Melissa George, and I can garantee the response will be "who???"
Apparently Melissa George was also a diva on the set of the Slap. Ignoring any actor who did not play a major part. You say goodmorning to her,she turns the other way. Melissa George you are nothing short of disgraceful.

Come on Melissa . Take your chill pills. All the films i have seen you in are not top sellers and lots of real proud Aussie actors do a far better job than you. Please feel totally free to stay in Paris with your dog and rich boyfriend
If Melissa didnt want to polite and answer questions on her past, present or future she shouldnt have booked to go on the show?? What did she think they were going to do play cards?? As to do they ask Nicole Kidman about BMX Bandits, I saw a reporter at the recent Melbourne Cup Carnival ask her who took the rubbish out at her place her or Keith ( stupid question I thought) and with poise and dignity she answered him, thats a star!! They can handle themselves in good and bad situations!! Seriously Melissa remember where you came from and ask yourself why you think you should behave like a spoilt brat throwing a tantrum or is this your grown up image. If so get a coach and lift your game!!!
She wanted to be like Kylie Minogue? The difference is that Kylie has always been classy, sophisticated and NICE!! You're a clown Melissa...you need help.
