SJP's split heartbreak
Sarah is the first to admit she was a career woman who took her time to get into family mode. And although they coped with the arrival of their oldest child James, having the girls put a massive strain on their relationship.
Parenting stress, rumours of infidelity and career mismatch have taken a toll. Now friends fear their long love story is at risk.

Sarah Jessica Parker became an icon to a generation of women playing unlucky-in-love Carrie Bradshaw – but in real life, she seemed to have the marriage thing down pat. Now friends of the Sex And The City star reveal her 15-year union – a lifetime in Hollywood terms – with 1980s heart-throb Matthew Broderick has been under strain for years.

Those close to the two say Sarah and Matt have been living apart for months as they prepare their children, nine-year-old James and twins Marion and Tabitha, 3, for the inevitable. And it’s all Sarah can do to keep it together for them. “Sarah’s terrified of being alone with three kids,” a source close to the couple tells Woman’s Day. “She knows her marriage hasn’t been right for a long time. But at the same time she feels like she’ll never meet anyone else, and she’s chain smoking and crying a lot. She doesn’t know how to cope. She is devastated.”

Dealing with a marriage in crisis is sadly nothing new for Sarah, 47. Back in July 2008, a US magazine reported that Matthew had been having an affair with a 25-year-old redhead while Sarah was filming the first Sex And The City movie. Despite her angst, the marriage survived – but not long after the twins were born via a surrogate in 2009, the relationship began to splinter again.

“Sarah is the first to admit she was a career woman who took her time to get into family mode. And although they coped with the arrival of their oldest child James, having the girls put a massive strain on their relationship,” our insider says. “She has a cleaner and nannies, but she gets frazzled trying to combine work, kids and making her marriage work. Matthew is a great dad and he’s very supportive – he used to cook almost every meal – but even so, they ended up fighting a lot and Sarah doesn’t have much patience for that.”

Really,is it hard to combine family, husband and kids and keep it all together. I had never noticed.....oh yeah, I don't have a nanny or a cleaner, I wonder how I do it without millions of dollars...................because I do it.
Marriage seems to be a little like an appliance these day, when it doesn't work properly get rid of it, or in the case of marriage, out of it. Not saying you should stay in an unhappy marriage, but surely if you work on it some can be saved. If one has cheated it is usually because they are unhappy and you will never trust them 100% again. Get out of it and get on with building a happy life for yourself and your kids.
Whilst I feel truly sorry for this couple who really do appear to be very likeable and sincere people (I have seen various interviews with SJP and I think if she llived next door I would really like her), I think they need to get a grip on reality. Having 3 young children is stressful absolutely but they need to take a look at what us normal people have to do day to day and then their lives and relationship problems would not seem so terribly bad. Work full-time, raise you children and try to educate and keep them safe, cook, clean, pay the bills, try to make ends meet, pay a mortgage, worry about you car breaking down, go without sleep or get sick and still have to do all these things, whilst still trying to keep your marriage together. Worry about being laid off and not being able to get work. Suddenly, having a great fun job, 3 healthy kids, a supportive husband, a nanny, a cleaner, a cook, a chauffer, a household manager looks pretty mighty fine!
So very glad to hear that Matthew Broderick finally came to his senses and left SJP. I don't know how he put up with her this long but I hope he will find happiness now.
Having 3 kids is stressful. Having a cleaner and a nanny and a husband who cooks almost every meal and helps look after the kids with the nanny im sure would alleviate a huge amount of the 'daily grind'. Sounds a little like princess syndrome to me. So if her children and house are looked after while she goes to work, and she only squeezes her kids in when she can, that leaves hubby to her time 'leftover'?? No wonder he cheated. Not a good excuse but by the sounds of it he might like to see his wife once in a while. Hope he moves on, finds someone who is an actual 'partner' and lives a happy life with her and his kids. I like SJP but she looks and sounds self conceited.
i dont ccare who you are, a-lister or not a marriage breakup is horrible and i dont wish it upon anyone, especially when there are children. Very very sad. (SJP big time fan)
how sad for sarah as a woman she has tried to do the impossible like most of us work ,kids and partner its a shame i cant talk to sjp i would tell her to take time out untill the kids get older and try to mend the fence in the relationship .but if it does not work you pick yourself up and go again you will meet someone else i did and i had 4 kids and i met a lovely new man think postive sjp you are great i love your movies
This is such a sad situation and should be fixable if they are prepared to take the time - but unfortunately these days, it's too easy to just hire a lawyer.
Women get so caught up in having to proof they can have it all but ultimately something has to suffer, like Hollywood it's only make believe for a time and wouldn't be possible without all the help.
