With her husband’s health failing, the buzz is that HM will abdicate – and bypass Prince Charles for Wills!

It’s been a massive year for Queen Elizabeth. She’s experienced the highs of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations and watched her country bask in the glory of the Olympic Games. But behind the scenes, it’s believed there’s only one thing on her mind – the deteriorating health of her husband, Prince Philip. As he was rushed to hospital for the third time in eight months, it’s believed murmurings have begun behind Palace walls for a succession plan – one that is likely to sensationally see Prince William take the throne over his father, Prince Charles.

“The Queen is a tremendously strong-willed woman but she is not keen to face public life without Prince Philip beside her,” royal expert Bill Coles tells Woman’s Day. “Now that he’s been in hospital for another extended stay, she recognises that, at the age of 91, he can’t keep up with her. The Queen is determined to be there for Prince Philip. He’s the love of her life.”

Our sources have revealed that when British Prime Minister David Cameron was informed the Queen, 86, was considering stepping down, he addressed the matter in their weekly meeting. “He hopes to convince the Queen to appoint William as her successor,” says our exclusive source from inside the British Conservative Party. “The Prime Minister offered his opinion that were Prince William to succeed the Queen he would be ‘a vibrant monarch and one that would unite his country behind him’.

“There is considerable concern that Prince Charles is less likeable and that the prospect of his wife Camilla becoming queen would be deeply unpopular with much of Britain.” It’s believed the Prime Minister’s subtle hints were not taken kindly by the sharp monarch. “He didn’t get a warm response from the Queen, who would only say, ‘I believe William has the makings of an extraordinary king – when his time comes.’”

I for one would hate to se Camilla Queen as she does not deserve it after she and Prince Charles did Princess Diana the way they did.William and Kate would be an excellent choice.
Well hope she does it only when she is ready to, and would love her to make William king as I think he is the peoples choice (most of them anyway i think) but i think it would have to go to Charles.
Yes many countries destroyed or murdetred their monarchs and today regret it! They now realise the historical significance. The royals closest to the throne bring in millions of dollars for their countries and a huge sense of pride. Interesting, many of the comments are so full of spelling errors and are more judgemental than factual, one can only question the education and lack of understanding of a monarchy. Perhaps time has come for Oz to become a republic but it is the heritage of Australians who came out on ships in awful conditions whether you like it or not! Just typical attitude - they have more than us so get rid of them! Most of you are probbly living with your hands out!Shame on you all.
Seriously why hasnt Britian done away with the Royal Family yet? France did it. They cost millions of tax payers pounds per year to up keep dispite owning a considerable wealth themselves. Speaking from exprience Australia really doesnt consider the reigning monarch of England our Sovriegn. We are our own country and England is something to be beaten at all costs. If she really wants the monarchy to survice she will pass it onto William, a man to the times. People resonate to him. Charles is dead weight. He will be the death of a monarchy in Englnad if he is crowned. Personally I cannot wait to see the lot of dole bludging millionaires in their own right lot kicked out of their ivory tower.
If it's true that these people are human like the rest of us, what makes them so special?
The Queen simply will not and cannot abdicate without passing a law, that is something she would not consider given the impact on the family and the Commonwealth following her uncle's abdication. The two cases with the Prince of Wales Edward & Charles are completely different. Prince Edward was unable to marry his TWICE divorced lover and had a history of not being able to keep it in his pants. Charles and Camilla are a different story, they are childhood sweethearts who were torn apart, met other people, married but never forgot each other. Prince Charles was named the next in line in 1969 when he was crowned Prince of Wales, he has already been named as the Queens successor. No if's, no but's, no maybe's or romantic nonsense. Kingship or Queenship is for life, it's not a job you can retire from.
To Keith, Brisbane, on 29 Aug 2012. You are quite correct regarding the impossibility of a Catholic ascending to the throne.Lady Camilla would be given the opportunity in due course to leave the Catholic Church and become an Anglican. She would not stand in the way of HRH Prince Charles becoming the Regent.Alternately, Lady Camilla would remain a Consort without an official title apart from Lady .This would be the best solution. I personally doubt HRH Elizabeth II will abdicate under any circumstance, even upon HRH Prince Phillip's death. She would also not place such a burden on HRH Prince William and as a consequence, Charles. Charles will become King.
At the end of the day, do we really care? I don't.
Its amazing gen y's say out with the queen. The queen is why you have had the lifestyle you have had growing up in this great land. Just remember that. Long live the queen.
more facts again Charles is still Prince of Wales - when he remarried, he did not renounce his right to the throne and it was not taken away. Meaning - he is next in line - do a search on it. Specific to act of Settlement, Bill of Rights 1689, the Coronation Oath Act 1688, the Acts of Union and the Royal Marriage Act 1772. Basically - he can be King - though in the past the act of settlement has been rigorously applied ( ie out of the line ) - it has not being applied in this instance - though I believe if he has children with Camilla - they aren't in line ever.
