Meanwhile, Holmes is doing everything she can to keep Suri away from Scientology, enrolling her in a catholic all-girls school.
 

Suri Cruise was left in tears over the weekend after mum Katie Holmes turned down her request for a puppy.

The mother and daughter were seen looking at dogs at high-end pet store Citipups in New York.

But after seeing just two particularly cute canines, including a French bulldog and a morkie (Yorkshire terrier/Maltese cross) the pair left empty-handed.

Suri certainly wasn't happy with her mum's decision to leave the puppies behind, shedding a tear as they left the pet shop and hysterically crying once in their car.

The six-year-old and her mum have been spending a lot of time together in New York following Holmes' speedy divorce from Tom Cruise, which took just 11 days for the pair to settle out of court.

Meanwhile, Holmes is doing everything she can to keep Suri away from Scientology, enrolling her in a Catholic all-girls school.

Up until now, Suri has been home schooled but will soon attend Manhattan's prestigious Convent of the Sacred Heart school, the UK's Daily Mail reported.

The $38,000-a-year school requires students to attend church every Thursday and has been attended by a number of celebrities, including Lady Gaga, Nicky Hilton and Caroline Kennedy.

While the details of the pair's divorce proceedings are private, reports claim that Holmes has been granted sole custody of Suri, with Cruise having considerable visitation rights.

It is probably the first time that kid has been told NO in her whole life! Well done Katie.
Well katie did the good by not buying the pip, most of the time its the grown ups that end up cleaning and feeding it in the end, besisdes iam sure that Suri as gotten more than she wanted by her parents and still does, good on u Katie, keep ur feet ferm & steady wen a girl is so use to gettting wat she wants,.Besides wats wrong with getting one from a shelter were the pups dont get a chance if noone wants them???? Thats were mine came from!!!!
To say that all puppies in pet shops in this country come from puppy mills is a load of bull. The pet shop closest to me most often has puppies that have been bred by the pet shop owner and raised til they're old enough in her own home. Many concientuous pet shops do the same.
Good on Kate for NOT buying the puppy! Scientology beliefs are that the child is better than the adult and no rules must be placed on them, in other words the kids get to do what ever they want. I thin it is brilliant that Kate has broken free of Tom and Scientology. There may be a difficult time ahead for Kate as Suri is used to getting what she wants, but there is still time to vhange those ridiculous beliefs in Suri..
Thank God Katie has some brains! I agree with 95% of the other replies above, DON'T BUY FROM A PET SHOP! ALL those puppies came from Puppy Mills and money hungry people who don't care about the welfare of the dogs they breed, just the end $$ ADOPT, DON'T SHOP! I want OSCAR'S LAW TOO! Besides, why would you go into a pet shop in the first place with a 6 year old who obviously thinks she can have whatever she wants? Why would you go into a pet shop that sells puppies anyway? Educate yourself Katie, and your fans will listen and follow suit, and Suri will also learn a valuable lesson.
Poor Suri - you cannot blame her for getting upset when she doesn't get her own way - that was the way she was raised. Good on Katie for finally treating her daughter like a child i.e. not giving in and giving her everything she wants. Perhaps asking daddy.....
shame on her for trying to purchase an animal, everyone should rescue a shelter animal instead of contributing to puppy mills
Good for you Katie, not buying a puppy from a pet shop. All puppies from pet shops come from puppy mills.
I would hope that Katie didn't buy a pup because she is aware that these places get their animals from puppy factories. Just as every pet shop in this country does as well. WE WANT OSCAR'S LAW.
Are we going to have to put up with the life story of this poor little rich girl, now that daddykins is out the picture (so to speak). Who really gives a hoot what a six year old wants or that mummy wouldn't buy her a bow wow.
