Grant and Candice: Why they split
"I want to be dignified in my approach to everything and ensure the children’s needs are paramount and put first. I wish Candice every success. It is my hope that everybody can respect the process and be kind to all parties involved, as it is a very difficult time."

Olympic swimming great Grant Hackett has separated from his wife Candice Alley after a series of alcohol-fuelled incidents, including an “embarrassing” fight at their Melbourne apartment that ended when the police arrived.

"I can confirm media speculation that Candice and I have separated," Grant said in a statement released last Thursday. "I want to be dignified in my approach to everything and ensure the children’s needs are paramount and put first. I wish Candice every success. It is my hope that everybody can respect the process and be kind to all parties involved, as it is a very difficult time."

Friends says Grant’s drunken antics at the TV Week Logie Awards at Crown Melbourne last month were the final straw for Candice, who was humiliated when bouncers asked the Olympian to leave an after-party at Club 23 at 3am. It was his second embarrassing incident in the past six months.

Up to eight police cars were called to the couple’s Southbank apartment on October 31 last year, after neighbours heard a loud argument and smashing furniture. The pair had just returned from a Derby Day function, which Grant, 31, hosted for Westpac Bank.

He later claimed the fight was “very much unfortunate and out of character for me”. “I am overwhelmingly embarrassed and apologetic and look forward to putting this incident behind us,” he said at the time. Friends say he and Candice, 29, have struggled to reconcile their differences ever since, and the blonde singer finally asked Grant to move out when his drunken appearance at the Logies made headlines.

Now we hear he admits to abusing stilnox during his swimming career so then he goes to alcohol, what next, definite substance abuse pattern here.
This happens in suburbs in Australia every weekend, it's unfortunate for those involved but this is what drink does to some people. The problem here is that the person involved is a public figure. End of story!
Sometimes 2 people are just a toxic combination, bringing out the worst in each other despite their love. His parents are perplexed as to where this side is in their son came from. Time will tell if this sort of behaviour continues in his life. We all make mistakes and don't know the facts. lets all give him the chance to make the changes needed.
Grant Hackett is a gold medal winner but he is also a drunken d....... and he did smash his home to pieces.
Not sure why people are having a go at Grant Hackett - does a night on the tiles really mean that he's an abusive drunk? I think not. I was blown away by an article that Alley did in the New Idea this week. I don't think the New Idea credits the Australian public with enough intelligence to see through a bitter woman trying to take down her ex husband for leaving her and the life style that she has become accustomed to. I think that she really makes a mockery out of real women that ARE abused and really have a hard life. Seems like Hackett has been doing it tough for a while, she looks really cold and mean and the sort of person that would withhold the kids from their father, just because she can. Good on Hackett for leaving an unhappy marriage - let's see Alley milk as much PR as she can out of this, I think Australia is onto her!
Another poor bloke put through the mill by a fake female. I really can't figure out why men forgo all they know and still get married with the inherent likelihood that he has a 75% chance she will ruin his life. Grant Hackett is a Gold Medal winning Olympian. The Best of the Best on the entire planet. He's not a drinker. His value to charity and especially children is incalculable. What has his missus done for anyone but herself? She feels quite free to spend his money willy nilly as she pleases. She doesn't have to earn her own money. She's a dependent now. She's retired. It's Grant's job to fly all over Australia and the World to make the dollars so that she can live a life a leisure with the kids. The kids need a wallet more than they do a father. Now we hear that his aggression was because he begged her to let him see his kids. But she uses the kids to make him do what she wants. Like Nicole Kidman. She is deliberately committing child abuse. Child abusers get what they deserve.
Grant and Candice definitely should split. It would be 'really sad' if Candice lost her life (or head) in one of Hacketts temper tampers, and then those children had to grow up without their loving mum. Grant didn't mind selling all their happy family stories for profit, but he does mind giving up been single. Go Candice - run, don't walk.
This guy Mr. Hackett has been drinking way too much for a long time this is what turned a good marriage into a bad marriage he should have thought of his family and stopped drinking its what happens in the home that counts.
How many times she is going to forgive him we dont know how long is going on his love with alcohol, just because he won Olympic medals those elite sportsmen usually are the one to abuse the booze and be arrogant and everything is going to be about them. he need help badly so Grant Go and get the Help You need
No one knows the details. Whether or not he has a problem with alcohol is his business and i doubt the majority of people having their say actually know this couple, let alone whatever problems they may be going through. Most of us have been drunk and unruly at some stage but are fortunate not to have cameras follow us around to share it with the world!
