The Newtons: 'The little miracle we needed!'

She almost didn’t make it, but little Lola Patricia Newton Welsh is here to stay – and her famous family couldn’t be happier.

Looking over at the little bundle dozing peacefully in the corner, every little part of her fresh-baked perfection, it’s hard to imagine that baby Lola Welsh, born to proud parents Lauren Newton and Matt Welsh on March 26, almost didn’t exist. “She’s our little miracle bub,” says Patti Newton, looking over at her grandchild who, at a month old, has already endured two near claims on her young life.

Lola’s first fight began before she was even born. At the time, mum Lauren, 33, was a few weeks pregnant and as far as she knew, everything was going well. But a routine scan revealed worrying news. "The doctor told me that he couldn’t find the baby in the uterus, and that he was 95 per cent sure it was in the tube," says Lauren, who was told it was an ectopic pregnancy.

"He wanted to act on it quickly, because I had been having a lot of cramping. He asked me to fast because he was pretty sure he was going to have to remove it [within days] or give me an injection to terminate the pregnancy." Understandably, Lauren was devastated. "I felt like it was such a miracle that I was pregnant in the first place. I really wanted a third child, but it wasn’t 100 per cent planned," she said.

"I already had my little boy and my little girl [Sam, 4, and Eva, 2], but this was such a lovely surprise. To have that taken away, I just thought, 'Why is this happening to me?'" Amid her distress, Lauren couldn’t shake the feeling that she needed to investigate. She sought the help of a specialist in tricky pregnancies and IVF. His diagnosis was markedly different. "He did an ultrasound and straight away said, 'I think you have been misdiagnosed'."

I hope Lauren is a better role model than her brother Matt! What happens when Uncle Matt comes to visit? Do you make sure there is good mobile phone reception, no defenceless women or older men around? Like I said earlier it would be great to see 'brand Newton' do something genuine and address the real issue in their family dynamics. Lauren having a baby just isn't that incredible.
Takenaback, couldn't have said it better myself! I have 3 healthy children too, and when I was pregnant with my 3rd I slipped and fell at the shops at 30weeks and we were worried that something bad had happened which thankfully it hadn't. That was just one of many incidents with this baby and I did wonder why me and why shouldn't I and why shouldn't Lauren? She has respected her body and can provide a good loving home for her children so why shouldn't she have as many as she can, why should she feel bad that women out there can't? I can't have any more children now and at times I'd dearly love another, sometimes I wonder why me, why was this decision made for me but I thank my lucky stars every day that I have the 3 healthy children that I do. Don't be bitter but respect that women have a good role model in Lauren Newton.
You come across as slightly bitter.. perhaps if you had of made it more of a priority it may have come to light. no need to write things like that after lovely comments such as the one from Cookie, It was a real downer. Don't get me wrong.. I feel for you, but a tip.. maybe act less bitter and you will recieve more love, just a thought. Here's some info for you Ellen, I would say it has nothing to do with your MS and more with your attitude. Are Pregnancy Complications More Likely if I Have MS? No. There is no evidence that MS is linked to any problems with pregnancy, such as miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, preterm births or stillbirth. There is also no link to fertility problems or congenital abnormalities. In other words, you are as likely to have a normal, healthy pregnancy as any other woman in your age range. 3. Will My MS Symptoms Get Worse During Pregnancy? No! Most women experience relief from most or even all of their MS symptoms during pregnancy.
Why is this happening to me!!! WHY NOT. Already blessed with 2 georgeous children, a pidgeon pair at that, does she ever think about all the women out there that can't have children at all. I have had many, many miscarriages and a stillbirth and will always be childless. I really like Lauren and feel she is more grounded than a lot of celebrities but HEY go talk to women like me. She should think before she speaks and realise that life is not perfect all the time as she obvioulsy thinks is her lot in life.
I find it all very sad that "brand Newton" are in a media frenzy to get a good news story out to the public given the disgusting behaviour of their son Mathew. Mum Patti flogging the sweet innocence on Celebrity Apprentice whilst dad Bert has gone to ground. Lauren being pregnant is not a news story even for such light reading as WD. Its almost as if we dont talk about the elephant in the room it will go away. My advice is come out very publicly and state that Mathews behaviour is abhorent and flies in the face of everything the Newton family stands for. Beating up smaller women and older men is the act of a bully and thug. That mental illness can effect more than just the sufferer. And then many more Australians will be able to digest the other goings on in their otherwise mundane suburban existance. Here's hoping they have the courage and fortitude to do something positive about the message of family values and a safer community for all.
Congrats on such good news i wish the Newtons all the best now and in the future your mom is also such an inspiration to us oldies Good news stories is great for the soul I have 3 kids and 8 grandchildren their all precious Yours Sincerely Cookie
She should count her blessings that she already has two children. I am 43 and will never get to have my own child because I have Multiple Sclerosis.
