VIDEO: George Clooney defends doing coffee commercials

Wednesday, January 25, 2012
George Clooney is being tipped as the man to beat at this year's Oscars after he was nominated for his role in The Descendants.

And at the Oscars round table meeting on Tuesday he revealed exactly why he likes acting.

Joined by fellow actors including Charlize Theron, Clooney said he is now picking and choosing which movies he does.

"I'm trying to make movies in my life, particularly the position I'm in right now, that last longer than an opening weekend," he said.

He also defended appearing in coffee commercials.

"I do films for scale and I do coffee commercials overseas and I make a lot of money doing those," he said.

And what does he think about people who have a problem with that?

"I don't give a s---," he said.

Do you know what Goeroge Clooney means when he says 'i do movies for scale'? It means he is making the actor version of minimum wage for his work on the movie. I realise that is still a lot of money but we are talking a difference of say 250k compared to 20mil. What he is saying is that at this point in his career, he can make money from other ventures, such as commercials, and choose films that are important, artistic, meaningful. A lot of stars demanding 20+million per film are limited to big budget rom-com, shock-com type films. Stuck on You, The 40 Year Old Virgin and similar mindless rubbish that no sane person would subject themselves to.
I just read an article on Rock Cellar Magazine that talked a bit about the causes he supports - how does anyone know he's NOT donating that money? He also said, "I want to make movies that will last. Cinematic statements that stand the test of time.” which I thought was pretty cool. Even big stars can still care about art. You should read the article.. it's here.. www.rockcellarmagazine.com
Why the hell shouldn't G.C make adverts & make money, its not like he's advertising anything ilegal. Who amongst all you folk who are shocked & dismayed by Clooney's appreciation of making a buck would turn down the opportunity to make a stylish ad that bought in good money, I sure wish they'd come & ask me, I'd take their hand off at such a lucrative chance,. Grow up!
I love coffee, & I love George, but I wished he'd say that he truly believed in his cause & that he was also a coffee connoiseur like me. Anyway, that's the real world, I guess...
I don't mind George Clooney at all, loved his aunt Rosemary. However when it comes to the Nespresso coffee ads, good on ya George - I love the coffee and I think the adds are fun, nice to know that he agrees with my opinion on coffee and with what my comment would be to people who have a problem with the ads. What a bunch of whingers there are out there, get a life, and if you are smart, a bloody good cup of coffee ! ! !
I really don.t give a damn about coffee commercials as long as I can see good ol george he.s so polite and yummy good luck to him I just want tp watch and dream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love those commercials, they're clever, funny and sharp..
that he's 'selling out', however I do care about which companies he promotes. Nestle is famous for its child slave labour working on cocoa and coffee plantations. People should wake up!
Good on George for ensuring that there is always George on tv if not on the movie screen! Too much George is never enough!! *sigh* Not that I can afford one of those tricky machines, but still ...
What does it matter if George does coffee commercials - surely he can pick and choose whatever type of commercial he likes - like the rest of us he has free choice. Seeing George in any commercial brightens it anyway!
