Stedman speaks out: Why I love Oprah

Oprah Winfrey’s publicity-shy ‘rock’ finally breaks his silence – to declare his love for her to the world.

It was a day full of surprises, tears and special guests. But among the movie stars and music legends who appeared on Oprah’s Surprise Spectacular last week, one guest did more than any other to take Oprah Winfrey’s breath away – the man she shares her life with, Stedman Graham.

Forever cast as the quiet man behind the world’s most popular woman, Stedman, 60, has always been something of a mystery – even to Oprah’s most loyal fans.

However, when he took to the stage for her final show, taped at the United Center in Chicago, the reaction of Oprah, 57, told its own story. The woman who has seen it all could only shake her head at seeing Stedman with a microphone in his hand and exclaim, “What in the name of Jesus...”

Stedman, who has been by her side for 25 years, proceeded to deliver a heartfelt dedication to the love of his life. “I’m so proud of you,” he told Oprah. “All of us are proud of you and who you have become.”

He added a touch of humour, telling the 13,000-strong audience and the millions of TV viewers, “It really does amaze me that I get to be around a woman who changes people’s lives every day... and takes her own lunch to work!

Dol, your flippant remark that "he doesn't know what love is" because he hasn't married Oprah is utter BS. Who says that couples cannot show love and understand it without being married? People can spend the rest of their lives together and not be married, because they don't feel that they 'need' to. What you said doesn't even make sense. As for setting an example for children- they should have a choice to marry or not to marry. Marriage does not define love, it may be a way of showing it but it sure isn't the only way to do so.
To all the negative people, when I saw them interact on her last show, you could see the deep love they have for each other. I also saw how her best friend Gail gave them the respect of space when they were together. I wish my relationship had been as deep as theirs is. To all those who think he should marry her, I would always pick a great relationship over a so so marriage anyday.
Dol not everyone needs a piece of paper to feel committed to another, I'm not against marriage, I'm just saying that some people feel the piece of paper is pointless and feel totally committed to each other without it. Of course we don't know what is their hearts, but neither can we be sure that people who are married are happy and committed to each other, they may be but then again they may be miserable. As for teaching young children, well I know people who have been married 40 years and can't stand each other and are mean to each other but stay together as they don't believe in getting a divorce, what message does that send to their children? Actually I know people who are anti marriage because their parents have stayed in unhappy marriages and therefore the kids think that marriage must mean misery. Children will learn good lessons from parents who are loving to each other whether they have formalised this by getting married or not.
Dol from Brisbane, just because they aren't married, doesn't mean there is no love. Marriage doesn't equal love. Some people choose to not be married, yet still love each other intensely. Others are married and will remain married, but share no love. I think your comment is narrow minded and judgmental. Let people choose to live how they wish, and love how they wish, without judgment from outsiders.
I absolutely love their relationship. I think it is wonderful that they are able to dictate how they will be happy. They don't need to get married like Dol from Brisbane suggested and he doesn't need to be in the limelight. Not everyone needs the cliche or traditional stereotypes, love is different to everyone.
So only people who are married are in love?? Are you serious? Man do I feel sorry for your kids lady, being brought up with silly expectations. Last time I checked was it almost 1 in 2 marriages end in divorce?? Who cares if they don't get married, obviously something is working for them to still be together 25 years later!! Good luck to them!!
It's clear he doesn't know what love is. If he loves her he should be marrying her so he could spend the rest of his life with her.. hhmm.. this certainly not teaching the young children anything
i was waiting in anticipation because i was sure that stedman was going to propose to oprah but it did not happen. maybe if this is what they both would love to happen we may see it happen in the future.
Thats a Nice Happy ending.
