Sad Oprah's TV farewell: I made the wrong call

As the talk show queen signs off, friends worry she’s already regretting her decision and is becoming dangerously depressed.

When Oprah Winfrey’s legendary chat show comes to an end this week, it will be the finish of a 25-year journey that has captivated the world. But while her achievements over the last quarter of a century are the stuff of legend, those closest to Oprah say the ending is a sad one – and that Oprah is already showing frightening symptoms of being seriously depressed.

The surest sign is, as always, the 57-year-old TV favourite’s weight. “Oprah is definitely at least six or seven kilos heavier than she was in March,” reveals a close friend of Oprah, speaking exclusively to Woman’s Day. “Her designers are doing their best to hide it, but this is much more than her usual kilo-or-two fluctuation.

“She’s gaining weight because she’s been eating more and more sweets late at night in order to cheer herself up. It’s always been her coping mechanism for depression. The problem is that then she gains weight, and that only makes the depression worse!”

When Oprah revealed her show would come to an end this year, she told her celebrity friends, including favourite guest Jennifer Aniston, that she wanted to “go out on top” and “move on to even bigger things”. But with her final show just a few days away, that sense of optimism has evaporated and Oprah is spending her private hours wallowing in self-doubt and worry.

“What you need to realise is that Oprah has always been a tremendously emotional person – that has always been a big part of her success,” explains our source, who used to work for Oprah’s company Harpo Productions.

Oprah is great, love her and her show. Its sad that its ending. She has made a lot of difference in peoples lives. All the best to her.
Maybe she can buy you some english lessons Wenty.
Moving on can be hard, yes, but she should be viewing this as entering the next phase of her life. She won't be gone completely either, she's opening her own channel and stuff and there's always avenues she can explore without it being her fulltime show. But to me she sounds depressed because she's no longer as much in the spotlight, and for egocentrics that's a hard place to be. She really needs to let go and start doing things for her future, not always regretting about the could-have-beens.
She should go into politics, she would be a shoe-in for the presidency.
Is she depressed or is it her so called "friends" who says she is? Its funny how people in the lime light have so many close friends who are so willing to open their mouth when asked so really just how close are they?
Thank you for covering stories that would otherwise never have been heard. Thank you for your inspiration for people with out hope to rise to become the best that they can be, whatever that is, milkman or millionare, you espoused the dignity in both if lived in authenticity and truth. Thank you for your willingness to show respect to those who did not always agree with you or you with them, but were entiltled to an opinion. Thank you for showing people that they could rise above adversity one step at a time...and that they just needed to keep moving forward whatever the setbacks. Thank you for putting a spot light on what it is to love...your big O being a symbol of how you embrace others and your world with dignity and repect. We will miss you.......love you Jo oh and you earnt every dollar girl!!!
She did well for herself. Ms Meow, Hoppy, Robert, you have absolutely no clue about who Oprah really is. Why don't you read up next time before you make a fool of yourselves.
You've helped more people than most. You can still help people off camera. You have enough friends and money to do what ever you want, for the rest of your life. If that kind of situation depresses you, you may want to consult a clinical psychologist.
It's about time Oprah, move on to something else for crying out loud. You've made millions and millions of dollars and you have billions of dollars, you are the richest woman on the planet! Why don't you give some of Your Own money away for once and not the sponsors or advertisers of your show!. Get Married Oprah and have or adopt some kids, why don't you share your good fortune with some of the people you love? You have a partner, marry the guy and have a big beautiful wedding, it's time to move on. After all these years and you have no kids and no husband, you need to let go of your money. Nobody likes to get old, maybe you can invest in science and make a magic pill that does away with growing old, that would be great. Imagine all the other things you could do Oprah, help the millions that have no food or water, help them build a better life, go and make a real difference Oprah..
A wonderful lady will be sadly missed on the small sxcreen
