Star's dad tells: Why I'll never see Heath's last film

Monday, October 26, 2009
Heath Ledger fans will be queuing this week to catch a last glimpse of the Aussie actor in his final film, The Imaginarium Of Dr Parnassus – but his family want nothing to do with it.

Amid controversy over the way the movie was completed without its main star – who passed away during a break in filming on January 22 last year – Heath's dad, Kim, says he can't bear to see his son's swansong.

"We haven't been able to watch any films, let alone Heath movies," Kim revealed in an exclusive chat with Woman's Day's The Lowdown. "And it's for this reason we find ourselves uninterested in The Imaginarium Of Dr Parnassus."

The $45 million movie, directed by Terry Gilliam, was thrown into disarray when the Perth-born actor died after overdosing on a mixture of prescription drugs.

"We've been sitting on the fence for so long, wondering how interested we're going to be in this film," admits Kim, who publicly got behind Heath's last completed movie, The Dark Knight – attending the premiere in New York and accepting his son's Best Supporting Actor Oscar for the role. "[But] we're just not that interested.

"There are too many shots of Heath unmasked, and with this year being so hard for us all, none of us really wants to see it."
