Lisa Curry: I want Grant back

Monday, October 26, 2009
Four months after storming out on her marriage, the swimming legend is going all out to win back her husband, Grant Kenny.

Standing face to face on the crisp, white sand of a Queensland beach, Lisa Curry and Grant Kenny soaked up the sun and delighted in each other's company, oblivious to other people on the beach.

It was Lisa – dressed to thrill in beach wear with her super-fit, tanned body on show – who seemed to be having the most fun. Smiling happily, the former swimming champ made a game out of stealing her estranged husband's sunnies, then playfully foiling his efforts to get them back.

"She was madly flirting with Grant – giggling like a schoolgirl, stroking his arm and making plenty of eye contact. He was trying to concentrate on what was happening in the ocean, but she kept teasing him and grabbing his attention – it was so cute," says one observer.

"For a wife who supposedly wants a divorce, Lisa seemed very aware of him. Even when she greeted their other ironman mates with a kiss and hug, she kept looking over to make sure Grant was watching, as if she was trying to spark a little jealousy."

On the very stretch of Gold Coast sand where they first met as teenagers nearly three decades ago, the Curry-Kennys were reunited as proud parents of their youngest child Jett, 14, who was competing for Mooloolaba Surf Club in the Coolangatta Gold junior event.

"It was like old times seeing them hanging out together, chatting in the sun. They are the two biggest celebrities in surf lifesaving circles, so Lisa and Grant being on again of course became the talk of the beach," says a former ironman and friend of the couple.

"We were all stunned to hear they'd split, so it would be a very popular move if they gave their marriage another go. They do suit each other, and when you have that special kind of connection, it doesn't just vanish overnight.

"Everyone who knows them has their fingers and toes crossed they'll make it – we're all hoping it's not too late."

Lisa stormed out of their luxury marital home on the Sunshine Coast in June – leaving Grant after 23 years of marriage and taking refuge in a beachfront penthouse before launching into a torrid fling with a much younger man, "love rat" Adrian Hunter.

Despite the split being Lisa's decision, it is understood she's recently had a change of heart…
