Glenn McGrath & Sara Leonardi: We're getting married

Cricket superstar Glenn McGrath will later this year marry the woman who helped heal his broken heart. With a huge smile lighting up his face, Glenn couldn’t hide his joy when girlfriend Sara Leonardi accepted his proposal just 15 months after they met.

“Yes, we’re engaged,” Glenn, 40, confirmed to Woman’s Day last week. “And we’re both very happy about it.”

The former Test bowler, who thought he’d never find love again after the tragic death of his wife, Jane, has now officially given his heart to 28-year-old Sara, who is wearing an impressive diamond engagement ring.

The proposal was no shock to the couple’s family and friends, who are thrilled Glenn has overcome his sorrow, thanks to his new love. “He’s enjoying himself now, which is what it’s all about,” says a close friend. “He deserves to have some fun.”

“I see him all the time and he is so happy with Sara,” agrees another friend of the couple, who were introduced in April last year at a party in South Africa’s Cape Town, where Sara was living and Glenn was playing cricket.

I wish both a lots of happiness, I know glen wouild make sure that he marry someone that the children will be happy and she will be happy with them, now to all those people they disapprove really is none of your business and i think 2 years is sufficient time to move on I loved jane and when she died i cried and when i see her some time on the television i still get tears in my eyes but she is dead and nothing is going to change that, life goes on and i am sure jane and glen discussed this before she died and she wanted him to be happy jane will never be forgotten by glen her children and everyone again i wish all the best to glen sara and the children ,god bless you all
The photos of the engagement ring circulating in the press are interesting. This is left of field but I think the ring looks a lot like a wedding ring, nothing like an engagement ring. Is it possible that they secretly married last month? Have a secret wedding here – her folks come over – another special ceremony over there for the press? After all Woman’s Day did break the story back in Feb that Glenn and Sara were secretly engaged. Otherwise, it's a very unattractive engagement ring. Who marries again this quickly after the love of your life dies? Was it only last year they met? I thought they knew each other before that? What’s the rush????
Happy for them, but Sarah really doesn't look that close to the kids. At least not here. Her body language shows she's placed that shoulder bag between her and the rest. She is turning outward, walking on her own.
I thought my comment was rather generous. I’ve never been fond of illusionists and McGrath is quite a good one. In fact, McGrath should consider a new career in acting, how about Home and Away?
I disagree, the media do the chasing and reporting and intruding..... there are certain times in all our lives when we need privacy to deal with our hurt and pain and unlike those better know personalities we have the time to heal without the outside world having to have all the details. I'd like to think that Glen after having found such great love with Jane has found it again with Sara and I even though I haven't met him (probably, neither have you) I can't see him marrying someone the kids dislike. He seems like a very lovely man who loved and lost once but isn't afraid to try again. I wish them a long and happy life together .
What the?! I don't know about anyone else, but if the father of my children died today, I can't for one minute imagine I'd be planning on getting married to the new 'love of my life' less than two years later. One can only questions the depth of McGrath's love for Jane and his ability to put anybody, beyond himself, first. I agree with Sam Spade, how about focussing on those poor children, who have had the most horrific upheaval in their lives. The last thing they need is an intruder posing as a stepmother. I think it's totally disrespectul, not to mention, tasteless, to Jane's memory, to have moved on so quickly. I don't think Jane would be pleased - I think she'd be turning in her grave.

Its great to see him find happiness again - after a decent mourning period. It is a bit soon that he began courting and engaged... to let media in on it too soon as well hasnt really scored him points. Well, lets see how it goes....
