Most of us have a couple of niggly issues with our figures, and so feelings of self-consciousness often rear their head in summer, when clothes are lighter and more skin is on show. It can be hard enough to step out to festive events with wardrobe confidence – let alone hit the beach in a swimsuit!
Luckily, we have some easy-to-follow advice for selecting the right swimwear style for your body shape, so you can look fabulous sitting by the pool or lying on the sand, no matter who you are.
Here are our swimsuit-shopping tips, so you can be totally cossie-confident this summer, and get on with having fun in the sun!
Large bust: Good choices are structured bikini or tankini tops that have underwire or moulded cups for support. Try halterneck styles to show off va-va-voom cleavage!
Boyish figure: Create the illusion of a waist with a belted swimsuit, or look for details that add curves to the hip area, such as ruffles, bows or side-ties on your bikini bottoms.
Short legs: Steer clear of boyleg styles that are low-cut on the thigh as they can make you look stumpy. A higher-cut bikini bottom is a better option.
Bottom heavy: Stick to solid, darker colours for your bikini bottoms, then draw attention to your top half with a patterned or brightly coloured tankini.
Small bust: Choose a bikini top with details such as feminine ruffles which will enhance the look of your bust. As smaller busts need less support, you can also carry off cute triangle bikini tops or bandeau styles well.
Big tummy: Tankinis are a stylish option if you’re not fussed about baring your stomach in more revealing bikini styles. One-piece cossies with ruching around the middle area are a good choice too.
