A new survey by the All Woman Talk online research panel has revealed how confident Australian women feel about themselves. How do you compare? Read on to see the results …
More than a thousand Aussie women aged from 25 to 54 took part in the online survey, with 72% of respondents saying they perceived themselves as confident, and 9 out of 10 women noting that feeling confident was important to them. A pretty good start!
When asked how confident they felt about various aspects of their lives, the women revealed both a strong side and some understandable vulnerabilities.
On the positive side, three-quarters of us feel confident in our jobs, 64% feel confident about our cooking skills, and more than half of us feel confident in social situations.
On the negative side, less than half of us feel confident when it comes to sex, money, fashion, fitness, and how we look. Fifty-one per cent of respondents also said that their confidence levels change when they have their period, with more than a quarter admitting to skipping a particular event because menstruating affected their self-confidence.
But the survey respondents also had some inspirational ideas about what confidence means to them. One enthusiastically defined confidence as: “Being happy … within yourself and rocking what you’ve got. It definitely comes from something within yourself and not what size you are or what you’re wearing.”
Other respondents summed up feeling confident more simply, saying: “Confidence is having healthy ideals and expectations” and “Confidence is feeling good about yourself.” Sure can’t argue with that.
And which famous folk are we inspired by? When asked which celebs exude confidence, respondents listed a healthy dose of Australian role models, including Nicole Kidman, Megan Gale, Cate Blanchett, Kylie Minogue and Jennifer Hawkins. Other stars seen as equally confident were Pink, Madonna and Angelina Jolie. Spot on, ladies!
Finally, respondents were invited to contribute their best confidence tip. Some of the best ideas included cracking a smile, cuddling your kids, helping others, doing exercise, putting on lip gloss and perfume, and getting your nails done.
