Forget the face lift. The latest cosmetic surgery craze is the bum lift.

Miami-based surgeon Dr Constantino Mendieta told a conference in London this week there was a steady rise in the number of women who craved curvier bottoms, the UK's Daily Mailreported.

The "Miami Thong Lift" procedure, which was presented at the conference of British Aesthetic and Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), uses grafts of fat liposuctioned from the thighs or stomach. The fat is purified and, unlike other cosmetic surgery methods, is injected into the layers of muscle of the buttocks.

This allows the shape of the muscles to change from flat to curvy and high and because the fat belongs to the patient there is no risk of rejection.

The injected fat contains stem cells that can turn into new tissue, meaning that the fat transfer can create new collagen, which will also improve the skin's texture and thickness.

The procedure takes several hours and can be done under a local anaesthetic.

The incision scars left behind by the procedure are hidden "in the grand canyon" Dr Mendieta said, which is how the procedure gained its name.

However, not all surgeons are encouraging the procedure. British plastic surgeon and president of the BAAPS, Dr Rajiv Grover, said these types of procedures can pose a risk.

"It needs to be done by a very experienced surgeon, in a hospital, in sterile conditions with good aftercare," Dr Grover said. "If you get an infection it could cause a very large abscess."

He also said that fat transfer is never 100 percent predictable and some transferred fat will die.

"Fat transfer is most successful when used in small quantities, as it needs to be surrounded by healthy tissue so it develops its own blood supply. Without that it will die and be re-absorbed by the body," he said.

"If this happens unevenly, you could end up with one buttock larger than the other. There will also be bruising and swelling that can last for months. You will have serious hips for some time after the procedure."

I am 53 and under 60 kg. I walk briskly several times a week in the free open air which has contributed to a firm round bum. Walking is actually very enjoyable and you meet lots of new people along the way.
When I was young "no ***" was in, now its "big bums", with my body much different in my oldER age this gives me hope that one day "big guts" will be "in" as I wont require medical assistance to be "in style".
How does squats and lunges not help, the gluteus maximus responds very well to training. Btw you need to keep adding weight.
You can have good looks and a perfect body and still not be happy. I'm in my 50's and happy to grow old gracefully. I don't have good looks or the perfect body (far from it) but I am still the same person I have always been. Even if money was no object, would I change myself - NO WAY. I'm happy with who I am , and so are those who care about me.. I've lived by the motto "I am who I am. If you like me, great. If not, don't expect me to change". I agree with Andy is shocked Australia. It not what's on the outside but what's on the inside that counts. Some people are happy with their bodies, Some are not, To each their own.
"Nothanks! It's called "squats" and "lunges". Go to the gym. Do them. You will get an awesome round bottom. No need for surgery. I know this for a fact as I started out with a *** flat as a pancake and now without gaining any weight I have a Beyonce Bootie! " Beyonce *** aside, how long did it take and how many squats and did it hurt your knees? I used to have a fab *** but old age (I'm 50) and inactivity have flattened the poor thing out. I want my *** back. Seriously. Help me here, AM
Male here. I don't and none of my mates like big butts. Shape is good but a flat *** is better than a big one every time.
ooooooooh all my life i have always wanted a *** i have the worse *** ever, just dont fit in with the rest of my body You see i have a big middle frame no *** and skinny legs really???? tried every thing to no avail
1t depends on the heart that takes it.before you undertake such proccedure one should ask herself why,are you doing it for you or is it to please someone?
I was a bit of an early developer through high school and I had my mother's curves and hips at a young age. I'll tell you, it is really hard to find things that fit a round, beyonce-***, especially at a young kind of age. Don't do it. Accept yourself for who you are.
If you have no butt what so ever, all the squats and lunges in the world are not going to help. Who are we to judge what a person does or does not do to their own body? There are things about my figure I would LOVE to change, and I work out and I am healthy and fit. What I see in the mirror may not be what you see when you look at me. Stop judging. If having a bit more booty is going to make you love yourself more, then make sure you have all the info and have researched the procedure. There is nothing wrong with giving yourself more confidence.
